Article Marketing Tutorial To Build Your Online Community
Getting started with article marketing and building your online community. How to write short articles for a big effect and establishing your marketing strategy.
How Article Marketing Works
Article marketing is one of the easiest and fastest ways to get traffic to a brand new website. It’s used both by beginning marketers and by multi-million dollar companies in their business marketing.
What is article marketing? How does it work? Let’s go over a broad overview of the basics.
How It Works
The term “article marketing” actually encompasses a pretty wide range of different marketing techniques. In the broadest sense, any time you’re distributing articles with a link back to your website for the purposes of SEO, branding, or traffic, you’re using article marketing.
Article marketing, when done well applying the basic principles of marketing, can consistently drive hundreds if not thousands of visitors to your site. Because you’re getting more back-links, you’ll also rank better in the search engines. Finally, because people keep seeing your name on different sites
all over the net, you’ll build your brand.
Why Put Articles on Other People’s Sites?
Why put articles on other people’s websites, instead of on your own? There are a few reasons.
First of all, if your site is relatively new, it doesn’t yet have the weight and reputation that some of these other sites have. Other sites already have backlinks, longevity and reputation.
In other words, the same article that might rank in the top five on someone else’s site may not rank at all when it’s placed on your site, simply because your site doesn’t pull the same weight (yet), smart seo marketing.
Also, if you get your article on someone else’s website in your industry, you get to tap into their existing reader base and existing base of traffic.
Finally, the one-way backlinks you get by writing articles for others can make a big different in your rankings.
The Process from A to Z
The process of article marketing usually looks something like this:
First, you start with a title or keyword that you want to target. The title is attention catching, designed to get people from search engines or other people’s sites to click on the article. The keyword should also be carefully chosen to maximize search engine traffic resulting in targeted advertising.
You write the article, doing whatever research you need throughout the process. The final article should be at least 400 words long, preferably as long as 1,000 words.
The article is then submitted to other site(s). These can be sites of other bloggers, other industry websites or just article directories.
Once your article gets ranked, you’ll start to see a consistent flow of traffic coming in from the articles and from search engines.
That’s an overview of the general overall process. Now what happens is many folks immediately become very anxious about writing, I understand.
One solution to counter this problem is to learn to write quickly without stressing over every word as I once did myself.
Learn to Write Quality Content Quickly
Learning to write quickly is a crucial skill for anyone doing article marketing. The marketer who can write four articles in an hour is going to get four times the traffic of someone who can only write one article an hour.
So, how do you write quality content quickly?
Write from Experience
Avoid writing about topics you don’t know. If you know real estate well, then don’t write about health or internet business.
Doing research takes a lot of time. When you’re writing about topics you don’t know well, you’ll write with less confidence and therefore less speed.
On the other hand, when you’re writing from your own knowledge and experience, you’ll often be able to hammer out articles quickly, like clockwork.
Choosing the right topics alone can make a huge difference.
Learn to Type “Properly”
A lot of people develop their own ways of typing that aren’t technically correct. While that’s perfectly fine for most people, if writing fast is directly linked to the amount of money you make, it makes sense to learn to type in the fastest way possible.
Get in the habit of placing all your fingers on the home keys. Use the appropriate fingers for each key press. It may feel awkward at first if you’ve been typing differently for years, but in a month or two your typing speed will increase.
If you often need to look at the keyboard to type, that’s also a habit worth trying to break. Make a conscious effort not to look at your keyboard when you’re typing.
If it helps, practice by typing in the dark when you can’t see your keyboard. (Don’t overdo it, though; it’s bad for your eyes.)
Learn Keyboard Shortcuts
Learning keyboard shortcuts can also increase your speeds a lot. CTRL+S for save, CTRL+C for copy, ALT+TAB to switch to your browsers, etc.
Anytime you find yourself using a mouse, look up the corresponding keyboard shortcut and try to use that next time.
Each time you reach for the mouse, you lose a few seconds. It may not seem like much, but over the course of an hour, a day, a week it really adds up.
Write Fast, Don’t Edit
Instead of writing and editing (i.e. correcting misspelled words, grammar, etc.) try writing the whole article as fast as you can without editing.
Then go back and edit the articles later. This helps keep you in the “flow” of writing without having to break pace.
These tips combined can help take your writing speed to as much as double of what it is today in just a month or two. Pick the ones that apply to you and practice them today. You might not notice a shift immediately, but in time the change in speed will be drastic.
Every writer faces it at some point. You sit down to write, but no words come out. You rack your brain and try to force yourself to start writing, but to no avail. Writer’s block. It happens to everyone from beginners to New York Times bestsellers.
How do you get out of writer’s block? The way most people try to get out of writer’s block is by putting pressure on themselves and unfortunately, this seldom works.
Instead, the next time you face a block, try this method. This method can work quickly to bust you out of writer’s block by addressing the issue from a completely different angle.
Get away from the task and go for a walk. Yes, a nice long walk to take your mind off of what you’re doing. Just do it, go for a walk, a long walk. It doesn’t matter to where, just do it .
Then … start writing. Write about something you’ve already written about, or something that’s been on your mind. Though it’s best if it’s on topic, write about something completely unrelated if that’s what you need to jump-start you.
Get in the flow of writing. Get to the point where you’re writing quickly, from thought to words on your screen with no filter.
Then switch to writing about the topic you wanted to write about. Writers often find that just by getting themselves in the “state” of writing, they’re immediately able to write about their original topic.
Anytime you face writer’s block, just try this technique.
